Something Old: part 2

The second of the art I did in May for a contest in which the theme was to draw the web-admins of the site, basing their "portraits" on their screen names.

In other news, I've been very distracted this past month by a project. A friend and I are self-publishing a book. She's the writer and I'm the illustrator. I'm quite pleased with what I've gotten done so far. That's all I have to say for now, later.

Something Old: part 1

Here something I did in May for a silly little contest, as a sort of Mother's Day present for my mom. There are two more, which I shall post shortly.

The point of the contest was to draw pictures based on the screen names of different web-admins for the site.

Postage Stamp Gardening

I went to a lecture yesterday on "Postage Stamp Gardening," which is about tiny gardens. Since all the space I have for gardening is a tiny balcony that applied to me. Since it was at the local library (that I once worked at) I picked up a pen and piece of scrap paper to doodle while I listened. (I always grabbed scrap paper and doodle while I worked there, so when I go there now the urge is strong). Here's what I did (usually leave the doodles with them now, but I kept this one):

The words are something the lecturer said more than once.

In other news, most of the art I've been doing the past couple months has been fanart, which means I've been posting more frequently to my deviant art account than here. Otherwise I've been trying to get a job still.

I've been busy, and still am, but have decided to post an old doodle here to keep this blog from getting stale.

Happy Valentines Day to you!

A this time of year I usually go nuts and do a lot of sugary-sweet v-day related art that is drowning in pink and hearts. Not this year. Just couldn't work myself up into the mood.

But today I managed to squeeze out a little love.

In water color! This is quite rare for me. So rare in fact that I only just bought me some watercolors last weekend. (I probably have some around here already, it's just been years since I touched them). 

I dislike working with watercolor, really. Though this one wasn't so bad. Maybe I'll get used to them the way I eventually learned to love using ink and nibs. Love what some people can do with this medium. 

This lil' thing was made on a little watercolor postcard I was given a pack of years ago. Finally used one. Good for me. Second watercolor I've done in as many days.

Challenge Week 4: Cliffhanger

The last one.

There it is. Doesn't have everything Desmond requested in it. It would if it were to continue into a real daily comic. He asked for this: "A three panel serial. Weekly. Pulp era comics-esque cliffhangers. With ninjas, zombies, pirates and cyborgs." If it were to continue, I know how the pirates would fit in and where. Same with the cyborgs. I know what happens next. Haha. You don't.

Challenge Week 3: Post Apocalyptic Space Love

It's done! This is the one I thought would be the easiest, and it was the most difficult so far! Most of the time was spent on the coloring. Arg. Ah well. If I have time I'd like to scan the "roughs" of the couple, especially the guy (their roughs are on separate papers), I like how they came out, and I enjoy seeing the pencil stages of other peoples art. *shrug* We'll see.

Finished at 11:20 pm Monday. This one was more complex than the other two, which means I kinda cut down on time, right?

I'll say this about it: Grayson Hall (the actress who played Magda) is one hard woman to draw. For me anyways. A lot of time was spent this past week just trying to "get" her. Also, it is very hard to find any pictures of her as Magda for reference. I wonder why there isn't more of her online? There's enough Dark Shadows fans out there.

It reads right to left like a Japanese comic! Try reading it from left to right like a western comic and it wont make sense.

Art Challenge!

Hello! I am going to be challenging myself in the jolly ol' month of January, 2009. And I'm gonna be helped by viewers like you! 

How you ask? By responding to this post. Yep. Just make a request of something you'd like me to draw for you, and Saturday (if I have enough requests) I'll pick four at random, and each following Saturday I'll post one. I'll be treating them as if they are from clients. If I'm pleased enough with how I did I'll put it in my portfolio on my website instead of posting it here. 

A few rules, nothing rated R, or anything like that. You know me (theoretically) so I'm not gonna be drawing crazy things of a adult-bedroom nature or have swearing all over, or other vulgarities. Don't wanna do them, and if I did I'd have to put this journal on the adult content warning thing, and that's annoying too.

It's a drawing of Lord Krishna I did while at the Shivananda Yoga Ranch in the Catskill Mountains for the month of June, getting certified to teach yoga (I was really there just to learn, I love being a student). Did this during the Bhagavad Gita classes, the book had a picture of Krishna in this pose, though I think mine is prettier. I always did prefer the pretty-boy Krishna art.
